Trends Toward the Integration of Terrestrial and Non‑Terrestrial Networks in Beyond 5G/6G
In the Beyond 5G/6G era, communication services are expected to provide an environment in which anyone can access connectivity anytime and anywhere. To realize this vision, communication networks are required to achieve flexible coverage and quality through satellite communications, to adopt a multi‑orbit architecture that combines geostationary and non‑geostationary satellites as well as high‑altitude platforms (HAPS) as non‑terrestrial networks (NTNs), and to further integrate with terrestrial networks (TNs). This presentation introduces domestic and international trends in NTNs that are entering the “multi‑orbit era,” as well as trends toward the integration of TN and NTN.
