Utilization of Millimeter Waves and Terahertz Waves in Beyond 5G/6G as Revealed by an In-depth Exploration of Society 5.0

The realization of Society 5.0 requires the advancement of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), with Beyond 5G/6G serving as its fundamental communication technology. This lecture will discuss how millimeter waves and terahertz waves can be utilized in the 6G era based on research findings from NICT on Beyond 5G. In CPS, data obtained from IoT sensors is integrated into cyber space, where AI-driven optimization and actuation are carried out via digital twins. This process necessitates a communication environment that is high-capacity, low-latency, and ultra-reliable, making millimeter waves and terahertz waves crucial. In particular, their characteristics are expected to be effectively leveraged in the construction and updating of digital twins. This lecture will clarify how the utilization of millimeter waves and terahertz waves will accelerate the social implementation of Society 5.0 in the context of Beyond 5G/6G.

Accelerating Beyond 5G/6G and AIxWireless communications systems development using intaractive development environment designed for engineers

In next-generation communication systems such as Beyond 5G/6G, it is expected that AI will be used in various communication technologies, and research and development is currently underway. While expectations are high that the use of AI will improve performance that could not be achieved with conventional technologies, many issues have become apparent, such as a shortage of AI engineers with knowledge of the wireless communication domain, increased development time, and support for new devices.

Model-based design is a development method that can improve the efficiency of complex system development, and is widely used in systems that require complex and high reliability, such as in the aviation and automotive industries. MATLAB and Simulink continue to evolve as a development environment for realizing this model-based design, and in recent years have been enhanced as a development environment for advanced wireless communication systems, especially for AI x Wireless applications. Many wireless communication engineers have said that AI and machine learning are difficult to learn, but MATLAB and Simulink are development environments that enable these engineers to learn and explore AI x Wireless applications. In this presentation, we will propose the advantages of wireless communication system development using model-based design, focusing on the following points.

Overview of model-based design in wireless communication system development
- Modeling and embedded implementation of the entire system, from antennas to PHY signal processing
- Getting started with AI x wireless communication
- The latest solutions for Beyond 5G/6G

5G is over? sXGP 2025 sXGP will be available on drones and neutral hosts...

Public 5G services and local 5G have been talked about for a long time, but we haven't heard much about services and use cases that are unique to 5G, and recently we've heard talk of 6G.
While some are whispering that this is the beginning of the end of the long spring of the telecom industry that has lasted for 40 years, we will introduce our thoughts on the current industry trends and the efforts of sXGP and others in response to them.
